Drumshanbo Single Pot Irish Whiskey is the first Irish whiskey to come out of Connacht, a western province, in over 105 years. It’s distilled by hand at the Shed Distillery of PJ Rigney from a blend of malted Irish barley, un-malted Irish barley and Irish barra oats.
This whiskey was aged five years in first use ex-Kentucky Bourbon and ex-Oloroso Sherry casks and was bottled at 43% alcohol by volume. It is said to be a smooth, creamy and spicy full-bodied whiskey.

Comparison to Pinot barrel

It was good not great. I purchased standard single pot to compare to this brand’s excellent Pinot barrel aged. The later was much better.

Sweet white fruits and wine

When I read about Drumshanbo, I was intrigued. It opens with sweet spices, pears, and yellow apples, then there’s a bit of light oranges, white pepper, and sweet white wine. The legs are thin – great for the ladies, not so great for the finish. The finish is sweet white wine, lots of white fruit (pear, yellow apples, white grapes, etc.) with white pepper sprinkled in. Waaaay too sweet for my liking ,but if you like a sweet white wine with lots of light fruit, this may be your dram. Drink slow, drink long, drink a variety, drink often.
