Kavalan Classic Single Malt Whisky

A bit too tropical fruity for me

Tonight’s dram takes be back to Taiwan (virtually) to the state-owned Kavalan / King Car distillery for their Classic Single Malt. It opens with tropical fruit medley, mango, vanilla, and caramel, soon joined by cinnamon, malt, and orange marmalade, and finally, green pear and butterscotch. The light oily mouthfeel and thick legs provide a medium-long finish of citrus oils, butterscotch, and slightly unripe fruits – providing a mild bitterness to offset the sweet. It is a balanced dram – not particularly unique, but quite enjoyable. Drink slow, drink long, drink a variety, drink often.
